It is our hope that Lumen’s productions will ignite in viewers the desire for a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Lumen Entertainment’s high quality and creative approach has rapidly positioned Lumen as the premier provider of catechetical entertainment. Lumen seeks to make products affordable and available to all interested through product sales, fund-raising activities, donations and foundation grants.

Why “Lumen”?

“Lumen” is the Latin word for “light”. Christ is the Light of the world, and our desire is to spread His light to the world.

Mission Statement

“To enlighten and nourish with Truth through the arts.”

This means that our mission is to make the truth visible and nurture its growth within the family through the most inspirational means of the arts. We will entertain, educate, and evangelize the youth and family by proclaiming the message of Christ, in the spirit of the New Evangelization, through the mass media. Our guides in the development of thee media tools are the documents of the Second Vatican Council and the Holy Father’s encyclical Redemptoris Missio wherein St. John Paul II called for a “New Evangelization”. We will also uphold the dignity of the worker in the workplace as prescribed by the encyclical Laborem Exercens.

Cornerstones of Lumen Entertainment

- Loyalty: We will faithfully serve Christ by serving His pilgrim Church.

- Dignity: The dignity of the worker will take precedence over the success of the apostolate.

- Integrity: We will walk in the light of truth and treat those in our dealings with honesty.

- Quality: The highest professional standards will be our  benchmark.

Meet Our Crew:

Brian Shields

Brian Brian Shields, a loving husband and father of seven children, has 20 years of experience working in the motion picture industry, and received his BS in marketing from the University of Central Florida. He has been involved in a number of projects, including the Emmy award winning series From the Earth to the Moon, and has shared the screen with the likes of Rita Wilson, Montel Williams, and Michael Jordan. After an awakening to his Catholic faith, Brian changed course and toured the country portraying St. Francis on stage. He produced the motion picture Thérèse and a number of radio dramas for children. The great need for quality faith-based entertainment for children led him to start Lumen Entertainment.

Favorite Movie: A Man for All Seasons

Favorite Saint: St. Francis of Assisi

Carlos Gonzalez-Chavez

Carlos was Brian’s slave, forced into servitude as a result of Mr. Shields’s advantageous marriage to Carlos’s sister, Cristi. Eventually he was okay with the work and stuck around even after Brian granted him his freedom. His gracious overlord even permitted him to attend the University of North Florida, from which he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. Carlos has switched jobs many times – from storyboard to layout artist to being the sound designer for several projects. He also gets to point a camera now and again. Carlos mainly uses his philosophy degree to discern whether Brian is being serious or joking – a question that comes up every time he proposes a new project.

Favorite Movie: Jurassic Park

Favorite Saint: St. Francis of Assisi, St. Charles Borromeo, Pope St. John Paul II, St. Josemaria Escriva

Nicol Santiago

Usually, Nicol is the only female at Lumen Entertainment. There’s not a day that goes by when she doesn’t think she’s a Disney princess. The guys in the office often have to remind her of this, and that there is no such thing as a flying carpet. She’s currently working on her degree in Political Science from the University of North Florida. Nicol wears many tiaras hats in the office. Her official title is Administration and Social Communication Coordinator. Everyone in the office likes to call her “den mother”, but she’s not really a fan of that. She’s also a CrossFit athlete, and you can find her teaching the guys in the office what a burpee is and how to do a proper air squat. At the end of the day, she is grateful to be part of a ministry that helps to build the kingdom of God.

Favorite Movie: Aladdin

Favorite Saint: St. Therese of Lisieux and St. Kateri Tekakwitha

David Oliveros

David first encountered Lumen Entertainment in 2008 when he came to the first annual film camp. He’s attended every film camp since, and after a few years began volunteering/interning on a regular basis. An aspiring filmmaker with an interest in cinematography and editing, David works on short films with his brothers and friends. Some of these have even won awards in film festivals at the University of North Florida.
